Give Earth a Hand

Description
Greenpeace asked me to make a film for the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, with a free brief. I started thinking about Greenpeace’s aims, and their universal appeal. Who wouldn't want any of the things it campaigns for? Who wants oceans without fish or no rainforests? When I'm trying to write I go on long 'thinking' walks. I was walking past a local school where I could only see the raised hands of the pupils at their lessons, and was struck by an image of the entire human population in a vast classroom being asked to choose about their environment. Then I saw those millions of hands forming the environments they dreamed of protecting - firstly in the form of a human wheat field - and the idea developed from there.
